Face-to-Face Lessons

Face-to-face lesson is a valuable tool for the student and the teacher. At ReBDI we have 2 kits set up so that the teacher can actually demonstrate exercises and passages to the student as required.

It is one thing to go on YouTube and watch a video of your favorite drummer but to have the ability to actually see and hear what is being performed is a valuable asset. Ron takes his time to clearly explain and write down exactly what it is he is doing and what he expects of the student.

Books and charts have their place but there’s nothing like one on one interaction.

Lesson Structure

1.    We start with the 26 Essential Rudiments
The rudiments are to develop technique and ample dexterity to proceed forward. The rudiments are also a valuable tool when exploring different styles of playing and practicing. Once the rudiments are learned, the student will be empowered to listen and interpret other drummers and better understand what they are doing.

2.    Grooves and Licks
The goal of most drummers is to accurately play grooves and licks thus facilitating him to perform his function in the band. ReBDI also encourages each student to improvise and come up with his own set of grooves and licks. Ron will most definitely assist in this area.

3.    Student Equipment Requirements
To get started each student will need:
  • Pair of drum sticks
  • Practice Pad
  • Metronome with headphones
  • 3 ring binder and paper
  • Functional set of drums (accoustic or electronic)
  • Access to a computer
  • CD player or iPod
Each student must have the desire to learn and the discipline to practice regularly (at least 3 hrs. per week)

4.    Goals
The goal of any aspiring drummer is to accurately keep time and play with dynamics. This means playing slow, fast, soft and loud as required. It is also vitally important for the drummer to lock with the bass player. The drummer should know how to listen and interact with everyone in the band; the singer, the keyboardist, the guitarist and the horn or horn players.

ReBDI is accepting male or female students 10 years and older.

The final thing I will say about the drummers function in the band is to be humble, prompt, professional, neat, and clean with him/her-self and his/her playing. Being a good drummer is just not enough. A friendly,  likeable personality plays an important role in one establishing himself in the music industry.
